Flatlanders Forever!

Here the Summers Family, a.k.a. Flatlanders, embark upon their soul discovering adventure! The mountains of Colorado await with all their beauty, nose bleeds and high cliffs. Can you believe we all cram into our SUV without very little fuss? It's actually true!
You know you've seen way too many Scooby-Doo episodes when all you can think about when you pan for gold is "the miner '49er". The kids had a blast touring a real gold mine and panning for gold. Boy that creek sure was frigid. Momma Flatlander had a little claustrophobic moment while the miner '49er gave us the tour of the actual mine, ack!!
Here the Flatlander children pose for a picture up in Rocky Mountain National Park. Notice how everyone sits on the ground away from the edge? Momma Flatlander insisted, most accepted happily, except Ben "the mountain man" Flatlander who defied his mother and stood by the edge. I think I'm creating a race of mountain ninnies.
The Flatlanders had just a fabulous time at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Ben actually kissed a Giraffe! We could feed and gently touch the beautiful creatures. The zoo was set in the side of a mountain and was truly the most beautiful zoo we have ever visited, and we've toured several.
Well after a wonderful time visiting with Daddy Flatlander's converted Mountain man brother and sister -in-law we decided it was time to return to oxygen and flatland. But before our journey was through we had one more adventure waiting for us outside of Wichita, Kansas. Our friendly SUV decided she had had enough and died right on I-35 14 miles outside of Wichita. Mike, seen far right in pic, the wonderful tow truck/mechanic hauled all 9 and I repeat 9 of us to an O'Reilly's to change the dead alternator. We sat 3 on 3, Molly-Katie-Hannah, Ben-Jack-Grace, Momma-Daddy-Emma, OUCH! We made a funny memory that day, giggling the entire 14 squished miles. Thanks Mike!

My Bachelor Pad

Boy oh boy oh boy! My people have left and I'm so excited to have this little vacation. I start off by snacking on one of my favorite things, WHITE BREAD! Just think a whole week of being pampered by my favorite boys and Grandparents. The house is mine to relax about, maybe I'll even kick back on the forbidden sofa, the leather one. If you read this my buddy, Happy Birthday!

"I'm so clean I'm puckered!"

Here's my littlest little man Jack on his first day of cub scout day camp. He was sooo excited to go and hang out with his scout friends for the week. Notice the umbrella? It was pouring that first day. Come to think of it, it rained the next day and then poured again the third. Poor little man, he was actually puckered. Reminds me of a movie I loved when I was a kid, Savannah Smiles, "I'm so clean I'm puckered!".

By the fourth day something bizarre happend, the skies were blue!

What could this be? A rain poncho actually left at home? My little day camper was given his first day of no rain. Let's sing..."Happy days are here again The skies above are clear again So let's sing a song of cheer again Happy days are here again."

Chocoholics anonymous

Hi, my name is Becky and I'm a chocoholic. Father's Day dinner I fell off the wagon and brought my entire family with me. Shazam that cake was rich! Very few members of our family could finish their piece of cake. It's a definate keeper. Bakerella again friends, I'm lovin' this blog! I will change the recipe slightley for next time. I like the chocolate frosting recipe on the Nestle Toll House Cocoa can, Chocolate Lover's Frosting. Oh I'm drooling just typing this entry, I need more cake. Just a little bowl of salad...lol Molly.

Insanity Rules

I've discovered this creative and yummy blog site called Bakerella, but in the process have dicovered that I am her ungly step-sister Bakezilla. Yikes! They came out cute but the beasty little cupcakes took over my kitchen. Still yummy.

Here it is

Now showing by popular demand, it's The Four Dancing Dads. They only appear once a year at The Dance Pointe dance recital. This years selections includes an interpretation of Swan Lake's "Baby Swan" dance. Duane does an outstanding job dancing so masculine in his purple tutu. The audience was in stiches, 2 thumbs up!

Superman

"Dadda you are Super Man" That is what Hannah-nanna said to Duane awhile back as they sat toghether on the sofa, and it suits him quite well. After his last scan the oncologist said that all the cancer seems to be dead, so Duane is now living his life to its fullest. Dance recitals(video coming soon), softball, charity events and even a little radio interview, he wants to do it ALL. Most important though he is the best Dad and Husband! We love him, Happy Fathers Day babe!

Duane's a little sore but having a blast at being the worst softball player on the church team. Does he care? Nah! That's Duane, he is just enjoying everything he can. He has made a few great plays, according to me or course! Peanuts and CrackerJacks anyone?

Haven't you ever marveled how life can change so quickly! Seven months ago I never would have dreamed Duane would be participating in everything he has done these last few weeks. It all started with Duane walking the survivors lap at Tulsa's Relay for Life, the American Cancer Societies annual fundraiser for cancer research. What a thrilling experience to walk with so many cancer survivors, 6 years old on up. Truely inspiring! Duane has taught me so much about endurance, forget Tiger Woods, Nike needs Duane as there next spokesperson for "Just Do IT"

Midnight Madness!

You've got to love two year olds! Apparantly before Hannah fell asleep last night a little bee flew into her bonnet waiting to strike at the worst time, the middle of the night. Around 11:00 and then around 2:00 a.m. the bee put Hannah into a tizzy. She just hollared and wailed and the only thing to settle her down was "chocit-a-milk" So now we know Hannah's comfort food.

Splash Park Baby

Ben thought he could play a little trick on his favorite target, big sis Molly. He dug a hole and then tried to disguise it so she would fall into it, too many jungle movies Ben. Fortunately Molly has brains and didn't fall for the "trap".

Don't you wish your rump was this cute?

Little Miss Emma and big sis Katie are having a blast at our favorite BA splash park!

It's Recital Time!

Here we go again, dance recital 2008. Just like giving birth, I somehow seem to forget every fall as I'm enrolling the clan in dance classes that recital time can be a living nightmare. But why am I complaining look at my dear sweet husband, who was once again wrangled into performing a little dad's comic relief skit during the recital. Don't ya just love the superman shirt with the tutu? Four of the best dads at the dance studio will be doing 2 dances, one to swan lake music and one to the classic "Can't touch this" by MC Hammer. It's a HOOT! Duane can shake his shimmy with the best of them. Sappy moment.... I'm so glad that he's able to dance in the recital this year, he has been an intricle part of the children's recital for 7 years now, a little cancer won't slow him down.

Each day to live....

Finding the little things in the day that make me smile.
